Client Introduction
DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital was founded in 1973 by Mr. A.B. Lewis, in cooperation with the Portland Veterinary Medical Association, and in memory of Mr. Lewis' late wife, Dove.
Originally, the clinic hours were limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays to serve people and their pets when daytime clinics were traditionally closed. In June of 1992, DoveLewis opened its doors around the clock to treat animals requiring emergency and critical care, 24 hours a day.
Today DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital is the only non-profit animal hospital in Portland, Oregon, devoted exclusively to emergency and critical care for animals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Project Overview
Big B Creations was contracted to develop a ground up solution that would allow DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital to securely sell their product range online. As well as the ability to sell securely online, DoveLewis required functionality to process orders, add/remove/modify products and easily maintain customer information.
After careful analysis of the target audience and the requirements of the client, Big B Creations developed a clean, easy to use interface that would allow potential shoppers to easily locate and review different products.
A comprehensive shopping cart was developed to allow customers to intuitively add/remove and modify the items in their shopping cart . A simple secure checkout process was then implemented using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) architecture to avoid confusing customers and losing potential sales.
To facilitate in-house maintenance, Big B Creations also integrated administrative functionality into the web site. This intuitive system gives the DoveLewis staff the ability to intuitively add any number of products and product categories to the web site.
Staff can attach charts, pictures, full descriptions, colors, sizes, etc to each product to provide potential customers with as much information as possible to encourage an online purchase.
An order processing and archiving system was then developed to process all online customer orders. This system allows DoveLewis staff to easily process all new orders, as well as the automatic generation of Tax Invoices to be sent with customer orders. All merchant facilities required by this system were set up by Big B Creations on behalf of the client to ensure all online purchases went straight into the client's bank account.
